Каждый год в России более 750 тысяч детей переносят заболевания, связанные с пневмококковыми бактериями. Наибольшая частота заболеваемости встречается среди грудных детей и детей в возрасте до 2 лет. Новорожденные дети получают от матери антитела ко многим типам пневмококка. Однако, по мере снижения уровня антител, пневмококковая заболеваемость повышается взрывоподобно – со второго полугодия жизни.

«Пневмококк быстро эволюционирует и теряет чувствительность к антибиотикам.  – говорит Заместитель директора Научного центра здоровья детей РАМН, директор НИИ профилактической педиатрии и восстановительного лечения, профессор Лейла Сеймуровна Намазова-Баранова. – Из-за роста резистентности (привыкания) штаммов пневмококка лечить заболевание с каждым годом все сложнее. Значительно проще его предотвратить».

В Интернете, на форумах для молодых мам можно встретить такие сообщения: «У меня родилась абсолютно здоровая и крепкая дочка. Выписывались мы в отличном состоянии, но в 16 дней мы попали в больницу с пневмонией в тяжелой форме… Даже погулять не успели ни разу. По анализам у нас выявили пневмококк. Проверили всю семью на наличие пневмококка. Думали от старшей дочки (ей почти 3 года) - не нашли. Выяснилось, что «хватанули» в роддоме».

Федеральному бюджету пневмококковые инфекции обходятся недешево. Ежегодно на борьбу с ними выделяется 30,5 млрд. рублей. Эта сумма включает в себя расходы не только на лечение, но и на последующую реабилитацию и социальную поддержку детей, ставших инвалидами в результате заболевания. По мнению специалистов из НИИ клинико-экономической экспертизы ГУ ВПО РГМУ  и Научного центра здоровья детей РАМН значительно сократить расходы можно внедрив повсеместную вакцинацию от пневмококковых инфекций. По их расчетам за 5 лет она сэкономит более 59 млрд. бюджетных рублей.

Впервые вакцинация против пневмококковой инфекции  новорожденных детей и детей раннего возраста была внедрена в США в 2000 году. К концу 2009 года она была включена в национальные календари прививок 45 странах. С 2000 года более чем 265 миллионов доз вакцины против пневмококковой инфекции было введено детям по всем миру. В России вакцина от пневмококка входит в календарь прививок только в нескольких регионах, в число которых Новосибирская область пока не входит.
